Madshus Endurace Skin skis: clearly best in test!

December 6, 2021

These are skis I want to ski all day long!

In a comprehensive, fresh-off-the-press test of skin skis for the 2021-22 season, Madshus Endurace Skin was clearly best in test. https://www.dagbladet.no/tema/felleski-test-alles-favoritt/74813990

The test presented by Dagbladet/ DinSide.no compares skin skis for recreational skiers aiming for all-round touring skis. The skis included in the test are designed to provide accessible grip and good glide in a wide variety of terrains and conditions, and there isn’t a “trick” to making these skis work.

Details on how the Dagbladet/DinSide.no skin ski test was conducted below

The following skin skis were tested: Atomic C2 Skintec, Fischer Twin Skin Performance, Madshus Endurace Skin and Rossignol R-Skin Sport.

One clear winner: “These are skis I want to ski all day long!”
While the test panel points out that all the skis tested are good, reliable skin skis, they all picked the same ski as the test winner, clearly a step above the rest: Madshus Endurace Skin. (See key features of the new Endurace Skin below the test facts)

“The Madshus skis are light and reliable, and simply super-easy to love for everyone. They are the most versatile of all the skis we tested this year, and a safe bet for nearly every kind of skier,” according to the statement of the jury.

The winning features? Endurace Skin is well-suited for all conditions and easy to handle for most skiers regardless of proficiency level.

At 1620 grams per pair (without bindings), the Endurace Skin was the lightest ski in the test by a landslide. The next pair weighed in at 1720 grams, and the other two at 1850 and 1910 grams.

While the Madshus Endurace Skin didn’t win the glide test, all the testers perceived them as the lightest and fastest.

The Endurace Skin was also the only skin ski in the test that didn’t make a “skin ski noise,” allowing you to fully experience and enjoy all the sounds of nature surrounding you.

“These are skis I want to ski all day long,” exclaimed one of the testers.

This is by no means the first time Madshus skins skis have been rated best in test:
Previously, The Redline Intelligrip was best in test in the Dagbladet/DinSide.no test of top-of-the-line skins skis for racing and training https://news.madshus.com/2019/01/08/best-in-test-madshus-redline-intelligrip/
Last year, Madshus Fjelltech and Madshus Panorama 50 were best in test among backcountry skin skis, https://news.madshus.com/2020/05/28/madshus-skin-skis-best-in-test-again/ and the Nordic PRO was rated the best allround toruing ski by UTE Magasinet https://www.utemagasinet.no/langrenn/test-langrennski/test-av-felleski-for-marka-og-fjellet as well as the Race Speed Universal ski boot.

How the Daglbadet/DinSide.no test was conducted:

  • The test compared high-end, all round skin skis for recreational skiers. The skis are designed to provide a natural striding experience, accessible grip and good glide, and there isn’t a “trick” to making these skis work.
  • Both men and women tested all the skis. The testers’ body weights range from 60 to 82 kilos, and their height from 163 to 195cm. All the testers were provided skis that fit their height/weight.
  • The entire test panel tested all the skis in Holmenkollen, Oslo, on December 2, 2021. Additionally, one of the testers skied also on December 3 and 4.
  • The temperature ranged from -4 til -8 degrees Celcius, the weather was sunny to slightly overcast.
  • Prior to the test, all skis were prepared identically using Swix CH6 glide wax, scraped and brushed. All skins were cleaned using a skin-specific cleanser.
  • The skis were rated on grip, level of technique required to get reliable grip, whether the skins were “dragging” or “catching,” whether the skis felt stable and reliable to ski on, and maneuverability on downhills outside the tracks. Additionally, the skis were tested for glide with bindings set in the neutral position.
  • All the testers skied on all the skis (Fischer, Madshus and Rossignol) except the Atomics, as the Atomic distributor had only one pair available for the test and was therefore only tested by one male tester.
  • The Dagbladet/DinSide.no test was published on December 5, 2021 https://www.dagbladet.no/tema/felleski-test-alles-favoritt/74813990
