Madshus Redline Seriously Fast

THIS IS DEPT. 19

THE FUTURE OF RACING IS NOW!

The new Redline series might seem like nothing more than a change of graphics. A facelift. A pretty new design. And on the surface that might be true as we’ve maintained the Redline3.0 geometry. However, this generation of skis represents a new design philosophy, one that is built for the modern ski racer and which utilizes modern technology to produce a ski that will help you get from the start line to the finish line faster than you’ve ever gone before. Every aspect of each Redline model has been optimized to the conditions in which they’re designed to excel. Marginal gains add up to become the race winning margin.

REDLINE SKATE F2 & F3

Our skate skis have received new names to bring them in line with the naming convention we’ve used previously in our racing department. F2 for harder, faster ski conditions and F3 for slower, softer conditions. This might seem like an insignificant change, but it represents the ethos of what Redline is all about: using top caliber racing to inform our engineering decisions and provide the fastest skis possible.

Both models feature Tuned Dynamic Response technology to provide phenomenal energy return and maintain optimal gliding surfaces throughout the entire duration of the ski push – improving snow feeling and maintaining speed. Between the two models the F2 is designed with longer pressure zones and a longer groove to improve stability and maximize top end speed, while the F3 is built to have shorter pressure zones and a revolutionary back-only groove. This design truly excels in softer or slower snow where it often feels like you need to switch to offset (V1) technique to maintain momentum. By removing the groove in the front pressure zone, it is now easier to turn the ski onto edge in the correct position for efficiently maintaining double skate (V2) further into uphills.

REDLINE CLASSIC COLD & WARM

The two classic offerings fill the same needs as our previous models, but the way they do this is totally new. Our Cold ski is still designed for hardwax conditions and still has longer pressure zones optimized for colder snow while our Warm ski is still designed for klister conditions and still has shorter pressure zones optimized for warmer snow. However, unlike in previous years where camber has been used to alter the "effective stiffness" of our skis, we have now taken an approach of altering the material laminates as well to better express the ski qualities and improve performance.

Just as important as changing this approach to ski construction we’ve also changed our approach to camber design to better serve the needs of the racing world. Double poling is a critical aspect of modern skiing, and the Redline 3.0 classic skis reflect this. A successful racing ski will provide near-frictionless glide in double pole, and bomber kick during striding. We’ve sought to achieve this by focusing on the dynamic properties of the ski, looking at the ski response through the whole loading phase from below half of skier-weight all the way up to over full skier-weight. Our Empower system provides this data and allows you to not only view the camber height at half weight and full weight, but everything in between as well! This is critical because knowing, and controlling, how the ski deforms over that whole range of loads provides meaningful information about whether the ski collapses too quickly and will drag or too slowly and will be difficult to get kick.

TUNED DYNAMIC RESPONSE

SKIING IS MOVEMENT

Most systems for measuring ski flex rely on static measurements. The same is true for most methods of measuring ski speed, which rely on static half-weight loads – skiers in a tuck with the weight on both skis at once. But the performance environment for a top-level race ski is one of constantly changing loads and conditions. The movement of the skier and the constant variation of terrain and track conditions creates a dynamic environment. It is the dynamic response of the material that defines success.

MOVEMENT IS SPEED

With every push a skier starts with entry speed, adds power, and maintains or builds exit speed. The ski takes the power of the skier and translates it to the snow for optimal acceleration. More exit speed taken out of every push means more entry speed brought into the next push, and the advantage accumulates with a compounding effect from stride to stride. This is the dynamic work of the ski. The fastest race performances depend on skis that efficiently produce speed in motion.

SPEED REQUIRES ENERGY

The ski works with the skier to produce speed in motion by storing and releasing energy as it deforms and rebounds under changing loads. In a single stride the ski will experience loading states from zero to well above the full body weight of the skier, not to mention a constantly changing blend of vertical and torsional forces as the skier transitions from a flat ski to a ski on edge. At every load state the ski needs to minimize friction by maintaining optimal snow contact and providing either elastic energy storage or release. A skier’s individual movement pattern, timing, and rate of force production will combine to determine which specific dynamic qualities best support their efforts.

SELECTING SKIS FOR DYNAMIC QUALITIES

Because of the importance of dynamic harmony between the ski and the skier it is impossible to select a ski based on a single measurement value. The traditional Flex value is a somewhat outdated measurement, and other parameters are more meaningful when designing and picking modern skate racing skis. In fact, the loading scenario where flex is measured is not one that a Redline 3.0 skate ski will ever encounter, which makes the value not very useful in accurately selecting this type of ski. To replace static measurements we’ve developed the Empower system to allow us to produce skis which consider the whole spectrum of loads our skate skis experience. More importantly for you, the Empower system provides the data you need to easilly pick your next pair of perfect skis.

REDLINE POLES

The all new Redline pole features a truncated airfoil cross section that reduces aerodynamic drag and allows you to ski faster and more efficiently. The shaft is constructed from 100% ultra-high modulus carbon with the best stiffness to weight ratio in our pole lineup. With a sculpted natural cork race handle and our new race strap, the Redline Pole delivers secure grip and superior power transfer that elite racers expect. The TBS® basket system allows you to change the baskets quickly and without tools, so you’re prepared for all snow conditions.

REDLINE BOOTS

Our brand-new «Red Race-Wrap» technology combined with a new, low-cut liner construction creates an inner boot that completely envelopes the foot. The unique combination of materials and technologies fully supports the heel and transitions seamlessly to a softer, more flexible and lower-volume toe box. The result is significantly improved overall fit, from the carbon base underfoot up to the top eyelet of the laces. Using a no-sew hot-melt material, the «Race Wrap» upper materials conform to the foot with minimal seams, providing smooth, even pressure distribution throughout the boot. The Race Wrap technology creates inner support for the mid-foot through an integrated web construction that directly connects to the carbon base, through a reinforced eye stay. This delivers a high-performance fit that is snugger and more comfortable while allowing for a more precise connection with the ski.
