Who to watch?

Based on what we have seen from the Madshus racers so far at the World Cup, Sturla Holm Lægreid will certainly be at the top. The 25-year-old Norwegian sits in second place in the overall World Cup, and has worked hard on honing his skills both at the range and on the course this season.

Additionally, German duo Benedikt Doll and Roman Rees are expected to pull off solid results at the IBU Biathlon World Championships on home turf.

Both are veterans on the World Cup circuit, routinely pulling in top-5 finishes, and are currently among the top 10 in the overall World Cup. They are also key racers for the German relay team, and have been instrumental in putting their team on the podium in every relay so far this season.

Additionally, Timofey Lapshin (KOR), has also delivered several top-10 World Cup finishes this season. It will be exciting to see what he can pull off at the World Championships.

Rule changes
The International Biathlon Union (IBU) made several changes to the rules prior to the season. Among the changes that affect the IBU Biathlon World Championships, is a new system for World Cup points.

As of the current season, the World Championships events are no longer part of the ordinary World Cup. This means there is a good chance that certain athletes who have not been at the top of the result lists so far this season will shine at the World Championships.
