The king of biathlon, Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (NOR, Madshus), is back in shape. This weekend, Bjoerndalen won the pursuit at the Norwegian summer nationals in Holmenkollen by 2.5 minutes.

Bjoerndalen delivered a solid race on Saturday, and continued with an impressive performance on Sunday. With only one missed target, nobody was close to the King. Lars Berger (Madshus) was second, but the distance to Bjoerndalen was substantial.

“Ole Einar delivered a World Cup-level performance in Holmenkollen,” says national team coach Roger Grubben.

“Bjoerndalen was particularly impressive in the Sunday pursuit,” Grubben said.

For Bjoerndalen, the victory this weekend is particularly sweet after two seasons of varying results.

“I’ve worked hard this summer, and completed my workouts as planned,” says the 38-year-old after the event on Sunday.

Bjoerndalen has suffered back problems for the past two seasons, but says they seem to be gone now, and he is excited about the upcoming season.
