Madshus Roller Ski Pro Tips

September 27, 2024

What do you really need for your next roller ski session?

Madshus has the tools and tips to make the most out of your rollerskiing season. We teamed up with the novice roller skiers from @BecomeNorwegian and top athlete Helene Fossesholm to get the basics.

What to bring

When going rollerskiing there are some essentials that should be brought along. First of all, you need safety gear. Rollerskiing without a helmet is not an option. You will also need special baskets on your poles to make the most of your rollerskiing. With a Madshus hydration belt, you will be able to carry liquid and have enough room for a few extras. Amongst them, a spare basket, in case you break your tip on the tarmac midway through the session, some nutrition to prevent bonking and a phone in case of emergency.

Choose your Route

To make rollerskiing  a bit more pleasant some research has to be done. Choose familiar roads without too many steep downhills, quick turns or heavy traffic. Some arenas are made for rollerskiing, but bear in mind that some of these can be quite challenging. Check out the Madshus Strava profile for rollerski routes and other tips.

How to Brake

And finally, how do you brake? The real answer to this is, unfortunately, there is no good way to do a full stop on rollerskis. It is possible to brake slowly, by emulating how you “PLOG”. And in cases where the speed is too fast, aim for soft surfaces. Usually, with one foot in front of the other, to balance your weight.

Now you should be all set for your next rollerski session.
