Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (NOR) has battled sickness through the dryland season, but never loses his sight on the goal: The 2016 IBU World Championships on home turf in Oslo.
The King of Biathlon has a drawer full of World Championship and Olympic medals, but none are earned in Norway. So far. That’s one reason why the upcoming world championships are so important to Bjoerndalen.
And when the 41-year-old puts his mind to something, he is determined to go after it. Bjoerndalen is on a mission, and he rarely fails.
“If you don’t have dreams, it’s no fun. Those dreams and goals are the driving motivation for every long run and every hard intensity workout,” Bjoerndalen said to Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten last week.
The upcoming season has no Olympics and no major Nordic championships. Accordingly, the 2016 IBU World Championships in Oslo will be the most important event on skis this season. Tickets are on sale now, and they are going fast. The IBU World Championships take place from March 3-13, 2016.
