Signing off with gold

April 10, 2024

It's been a big season of firsts for Johan-Olav Botn (NOR). Why not cap it with a first national championships title? And he was not the only one.

At the Norwegian national championships in Geilo, Madshus biathletes took home six medals, including three gold medals.

For Johan-Olav Botn, this winter has been a season of firsts: first national team season, first World Cup races, first World Cup podium, first international medals, to mention a few of the highlights.

For his last weekend at the office, the 24-year-old added another first to his already impressive season: on Sunday, Botn helped his regional team to victory in the relay, and bagged his first-ever National Championships gold medal. Additionally, Vebjørn Sørum helped his team to silver and Vetle Rype Paulsen helped secure bronze for his team.

Just a few hours earlier, Team Madshus sisters Guro and Ragnhild Femsteinevik skied the first and the last leg in the women’s relay and secured their first National Championships gold medals, while Maren Bakken helped her team to silver.

Finally, the Norwegian national teams for the 2024/25 season were announced this week, featuring six Madshus racers: Endre Strømsheim was named to the men’s elite team along with Sturla Holm Lægreid, while Johan-Olav Botn and Vebjørn Sørum were named to the development team. On the women’s side, Åsne Skrede and Guro Femsteinevik are now a part of the Norwegian development team.
