“It´s sick. This is a life goal, and I pull it off when I’m 18!” says the Swedish turbo junior to SVT at the finish line.
Alvar Myhlback is not only the youngest ever to win the prestigious 90-kilometer race from Sälen to Mora. He also posts the second-fastest time.
Crossing the line in three” hours, 28 minutes and 45 seconds, he is only seconds shy of the course record from 2021 (3:28:18.4)
“I’ve never had better skis. They were rockets form start to finish” says Myhlback to SVT at the finish line.
Writing history
Myhlback, has Myhlback made Vasaloppet history already in 2023, when he prompted the race organizers to change the age requirements and finished in eighth place
In 2023, he already made history by prompting the Vasaloppet race to change its rules. He then participated and finished in eighth place. Last year, he achieved third place, becoming the youngest person ever to stand on the podium at the Vasaloppet.
This year, Myhlback became the youngest Vasaloppet winner in history, by three years. He has also broken a record that's been held for over 100 years: Prior to Myhlback's victory, the youngest winner was Ernst Alm from IFK Norsjö, who was 22 years old when he won the inaugural Vasaloppet in 1922.
