Sturla Holm Lægreid (NOR) continues to impress in his rookie season with the Norwegian national biathlon team.
Coming off a week where he cruised in to three podium finishes including one victory, the 23-year-old opened the second World Cup weekend in Oberhof (GER) with yet another stellar podium finish in the 10-kilometer sprint on Thursday. Lægreid is now in second place overall for the 2020-21 IBU World Cup.
Among the women, Vanessa Hinz helped secure first place to Germany on home turf in the 4×6-kilometer relay on Saturday. The seasoned biathlete raced the critical first leg and shot clean both times at the range, setting her teammates up nicely for the rest of the race.
The IBU World Cup now moves on to Antholz-Anterselva (ITA) for the next round of competitions starting January 21.

While the FIS World Cup was off this weekend after the grueling 10-day Tour de Ski stage race that concluded on January 10, Norway’s top racers opened the 2021 National Championships in Trondheim on Saturday. On the line are tickets to the FIS World Championships in Oberstdorf (GER) next month.
Mathilde Myhrvold opened the 4-day championships with a solid fourth place in the sprint on Saturday, just shy of a medal and putting in a solid bid for a spot on the World Championship team.
On Sunday, turbo junior Helene Marie Fossesholm muscled her way to the bronze medal in the skiathlon at the Norwegian national championships – her second at the senior level – and the 19-year-old is as good as confirmed for the skiathlon at the FIS World Championships next month.
