Summer isn’t the break – it’s when you lay the foundation. For many skiers, roller skiing is the key to building form, refining technique, and staying motivated through the off-season. But to get the most out of your sessions, there are a few essentials to keep in mind before you click into your bindings.

Here are our top tips and tricks for a safer, smarter, and more effective roller skiing experience – whether you’re training for your next big race, or simply chasing that perfect feeling of flow.

1. The Right Gear = A Better Experience It all starts with your setup.

Your roller skis should match your technique and terrain – classic or skate, rough roads or smooth pavement. 

Choose skis and boots fitted to yout technique and abilities. A ski boot with more ankle support will provide a more a stable ride. Always wear a helmet, high-vis vest, and glasses. Roller skiing happens in the real world.

2. Bring Your Winter Technique with You

It’s easy to lose your “snow feeling” on roller skis. Adjust your movement patterns: Practice diagonal stride in uphills with the secure grip the roller skis provide. And make sure to try double poling on the flats. For skating - Focus on full weight transfer and clean glide, just like on snow.
