Anger snags first World Cup podium: “This was something else”

Edvin Anger bags his first World Cup podium as Team Madshus pulls off another stellar weekend at the races, taking home podiums by the buckets.

Edvin Anger pulls off his first World Cup podium, anchoring Sweden to second place in the men’s relay in Toblach (ITA) on Sunday.

Anger started his leg in fifth place, and went straight to work. The bold 20-year-old chased down the race leaders within half a lap, dominated the rest of the final leg and finished six tenths of a second from first place.

“This was something else,” Anger says witha grinafter his race.

Fellow Madshus racer Harald Østberg Amundsen anchored Norway to third place, a scant second behind the Swede.

In the women’s relay, Hailey Swirbul helped team USA to third place, only two tenths of a second behind Sweden in second place.

The 3-day race weekend in Toblach was the final World Cup prior to the 2023 World Championships in Planica (SLO), and the relays on Sunday are only World Cup relays this season.

On the long-distance/marathon circuit, Thomas Bing (GER) snags first place on home turf in König Ludwiglauf and Petter Skinstad (NOR) was third. Additionally, Alexandra Danner won the 21-kilometer women’s classic race and Luisa Dahlke won the 10-kilometer classic race.

With less than a week to go until the start of the 2023 IBU Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof (GER), the biathlon World Cup took a break this weekend.

However, Madshus rising star Vebjørn Sørum (NOR) continued his podium tour on the IBU-Cup. On Thursday, the 24-year-old was second in the sprint in Obertilliach (AUT). On Saturday, he won the sprint. Last week, Sørum took home three medals from the European Championships, including two gold medals.
