A Season to Remember – The Youngest Ever Vasaloppet Winner
At just 18 years old, Alvar stunned the ski world when he won the Vasaloppet 2025, after a thrilling sprint finish against the rest of the field.
With this performance, Alvar became the youngest winner in the 100-year history of the race, a feat that immediately placed him among the greats of long-distance skiing.
“It was an unbelievable day. Everything came together – my shape, the skis, the teamwork. Crossing that finish line first at Vasaloppet was something I’ve dreamed about since I was a kid,” said Myhlback after the race.
Racing for Lager 157, he combined tactical intelligence with impressive endurance, staying in control through the challenging 90 km from Sälen to Mora. His sprint abilities became decisive when distancing the rest of the field on the last stretch. But the win did not came out of nowhere. Its been years of hard work.
Built on Years of Dedication – Guided by His Father
Behind Alvar’s rapid rise lies years of structured training and discipline well beyond his age. Throughout his teenage years, he has invested countless hours in smart, targeted training.
Much of this progress has come under the careful guidance of his father, Petter Myhlback, himself an experienced coach and wax technician for the Swedish national team. The two have worked closely together — analyzing technique, planning sessions, and fine-tuning every detail of his preparation.
“My dad has been a huge part of my journey,” Alvar explains. “He knows when to push me and when to hold me back. He’s taught me to train with purpose, not just volume.”
That combination of family support, thoughtful coaching, and a long-term mindset has helped Alvar build the physical base and mental resilience needed to handle the demands of elite long-distance racing — all while still in his teens.
Beyond Vasaloppet – Learning, Adapting, and Building Momentum
While Vasaloppet was the crown jewel, Alvar’s 2024/25 season showed consistency across the Ski Classics series. Being close several times as a youngster with a podium last year in Vasaloppet last year, confirming that his Vasaloppet triumph was no one-time surprise.
During the summer, Myhlback also tested his form on roller skis, winning the 15 km classic race at the Trollhättan Roller Ski World Cup — a clear sign that his off-season training is translating into race-ready power.
These results underscore his progression from junior standout — including a gold medal at the 2024 Junior World Championships in Planica — to a full-fledged elite athlete ready to take on the world’s best.

The Madshus Connection
For Alvar, equipment plays a key role in every race. His trust in Madshus skis and innovation-driven performance gear has been part of his success story.
“Having confidence in my skis is everything — especially in a race like Vasaloppet where the conditions might change” he says.
As he continues to evolve, Madshus stands proudly behind his journey — developing the future DP(Double Poling) range for all types of conditions and terrain. There is a lot more factors in the longer distance races, where you tend to compete for several hours, in different types of elevation.
With youth, discipline, and a deep love for the sport, Alvar Myhlback represents the next generation of long-distance skiing. His Vasaloppet victory was historic — but it’s also just the beginning.
