“I had really good skis, so it was a perfect day, both in the track and at the range,” Benedikt Doll said after winning the biathlon World Cup sprint in Annecy-Le Grand Bornand, France, on Thursday.
The 29-year-old German won the 10-kilomter sprint almost 10 seconds ahead of second place, clocking in at 23:22.1 after shooting clean both times at the range.
“Before the start today, I was a little bit tired and didn’t feel 100 percent, so it was really unexpected to end up in first place. I had a little bit of luck at the shooting range, so in the end it’s nice to win with a little bit of luck,” Doll explained.

The World Cup win in Annecy was Doll’s second individual victory. The first was at the 2017 IBU World Championships in Hochfilzen, Austria, also in the sprint event. Doll also took home two medals from the 2018 Olympics in South Korea.
The World Cup in Annecy-Le Grand Bornand continues with the women’s 7.5-kilometer sprint tomorrow, pursuit races for both men and women on Saturday and concludes with mass start events for both on Sunday.
