The amazing Norwegian has won three gold medals at the IBU World Championships in Nove Mesto (CZE) so far, and the Madshus champion is hungry for more.
“This was so fun, I definitely want to do more of that,” Super-Svendsen said after the race.
Emil Hegle Svendsen (NOR) opened the 2013 World Championships by securing the gold medal in the mixed relay. Then he won the sprint on Saturday. And Sunday, he won the pursuit in a close sprint finish with Martin Fourcade (FRA) where Svendsen won by 2.4 cm. After winning the sprint on Saturday, Svendsen started with an 8-second lead on Fourcade, which Fourcade closed early in the race. Then it became a cat-and-mouse game.
“It was a real thriller. I never thought I was going to make it when he gained on me early, but on the final stretch I was stronger than him,” Svendsen said to Norwegian TV station NRK his race.
“I wasn’t entirely sure of the gold, but I felt like I had to cheer just a little bit. The two last gold medals have been kind of mellow celebrations,” he said.
While Svendsen admits that the victory was a little bit luck as well as skill, three gold medals in three days speak volumes of themselves.
