Jarl Riiber (NOR) won the overall title at the Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix in Oberstdorf (GER).
In the final Summer Grand Prix competition of the season, 18-year-old Jarl Riiber made quite a statement.
First, Riiber won the jumping competition with a jump of 145.1 meters and light years ahead of Maxime Laheurte (FRA) who was second with a jumped 130.4 meters. Then Riiber beat defending champion Johannes Rydzek by 17.6 seconds on Rydzek’s home turf, ending the German’s 5-year consecutive winning streak.
For Riiber the victory was particularly exciting. Not only is he the first Norwegian Nordic combined athlete to win the overall Summer Grand Prix, Riiber is the previous champion of the Nordic Combined Youth Cup, which takes place parallel to the Grand Prix.
“It means so much for me to win this title,” Riiber said to FIS after the race.
“I remember when I got my trophy at the Youth Cup, it was one of my Nordic Combined heroes Johannes Rydzek who handed me my trophy.”
The Summer Grand Prix competition in Oberstdorf (GER) on September 1-3 was the fourth and final this season.
